General Information about Cockroaches
- Roaches have four basic requirements for survival: food, water, shelter, and warmth
- Have gradual metamorphosis: egg, nymph, adult
- Females carry eggs in sacks called ootheca
- Nymphs resemble adults, only smaller
- May molt 5-13 times before adulthood
- Typically nocturnal activity, hiding in cracks and crevices when not scavenging
- Fecal matter and cast skins are causes of allergic reactions and asthema
- Disease vector by depositing disease organisms on food, dishes, or other items: dysentery, gastroenteritis, typhoid, poliomyelitis
