Pavement Ants (Tetramorium caespitum)
I. Identification
- 1/10-1/16" black ants
II. Nesting Habits
- Can be found along side patios, sidewalks, driveways, foundations, under mulch, landscaping stones and logs
III. Feeding Habits
- Feed on grease, sweets, seeds and dead insects
IV. Controls
- Locate and treat nests
- Indoors in wall voids, under toilets and near water heaters
- Nest consists of thousands of workers and multiple queens
- Generally swarm in the spring
- Also feed on dropped food or pet food
- Establish defined trails along baseboards, beneath carpet edges and under toilets
- Directly treat trails
- Exterior perimeter application for barrier
- Locate and seal entry points
